A west Mesa hotel that has been an “eyesore” and “the source of criminal activity” is being converted into a 120-unit apartment complex. Neighborhood Ventures purchased the former American Inn along Country Club Road and Southern Avenue in 2021 for $13.2 million, according to county documents. The group also crowdfunded nearly 300 Arizona residents to raise $3.5 million to invest in the hotel. The company got the thumbs up from the city’s planning and zoning board in March and will next go for approval to the City Council in April. The developers are asking the city for a zoning change that will allow for long-term residents to reside on the 3-acre property.
